A quietly grand home that reflects the importance of Portishead as a Victorian seaside resort

This exquisite six-bedroom villa lies in a highly sought-after position on Woodlands Road in Portishead. Located within the Eastwood conservation area and just a short distance from the seafront, lido and lake grounds, the home has breathtaking views of the Severn Estuary and Welsh coastline. Set in expansive private gardens, the internal living space extends to over 3,000 sqft with an excellent quality of coastal light streaming through its three storeys.

Setting the Scene

Woodlands has been recognised as “a distinctive and important building in the conservation area” and is considered a locally valued heritage asset. The house reflects the history of Portishead as a Victorian seaside resort and is described in Bond and Fardon’s 1855 guidebook as being “built in the Grecian style” and as a “commodious house for lodgings”.

In 1832, Bristol Corporation completed a small landing slipway below ‘The Royal Hotel’ to encourage more visitors to come to Portishead by sailing or steamboats. The house was built on land owned by Bristol Corporation overlooking the Bristol Channel and the slipway was at the end of Woodlands Road.
